Moved down to the Mill Pond. Didn’t get much fishing in as the mosquitos have gone wild in the hatch and my arms not look like dinner to them. In the short time I did manage to stir up a 14″ smallmouth on a green/clear cho shad. Quite a few nice bass rolling in the shad tonight but it wasnt worth being dinner.

Take: Smallmouth Bass(1)

Started off at the covered bridge at fallasburg park. Fishing with a firetiger zander shad under the bridge stirred up a smallmouth (13″) near the rocks. Nice surprise as it is unusual to find anything over 8″ near the bridge.

Flat River
Lowell, MI
Take: Rock Bass (64,65,66,67), Smallmouth (53)

Fished in Lowell on the mill pond tonight. The weeds are getting thick and the water low. The temperature is beginning to cool through, and the water is reflecting that. Caught 2 little rock bass (6″,7″) under the railroad tressle. Caouldn’t stir anything up in the thick of the weeds so I moved down the barrel stream to the tressle and caught a smallmouth (9″) and another rock bass (7″). Moving up the island stream I found one more rock bass (8″) in the center behind the rock pile.

Flat River
Grand Rapids, MI
Take: Largemouth (6), Rock Bass (56,57,58,59,60,61,62), Smallmouth (48)

Interesting night tonight. No fish in the usual places at the mill pond, and no fish taking the usual techniques elsewhere. Pulling cranks with the current through the weels near the barrel stream brought the first success. Caught three rock bass (6″,7″,6″) off the island on a green/clear cho. Using the same method with a smoke subwart brought in a largemouth (8″) and three more rock bass (6″,8″,7″) at the upstream end of the weeds. While fishing the hole down of the pier caught a smallmouth (13″) and a rock bass (8″). The smallmouth had some damage. I’ve seen fish before with iron sores from people leaving hooks in fish, and I have seen fish with damage from fisherman using oversized trebles, but I’ve never seen anything like this. There was a large growth inside the lip and raw swollen skin outside the lip. Not sure if it was an infection or a tumor, but I’m thinking tumor. Strange. Do fish get cancer? Maybe thats a dumb question, but I don’t know.
