Grand River
Grand Rapids, MI
Take: Northern Pike (4) Rock Bass (16), Smallmouth (37,38,39,40)
Started at the carousel, caught a smallmouth (11″) along the shoreline on an asai shad. Moved down a little bit and fished a backwater under the carousel that is formed by a log dropped there during the storms. Caught aother smallie (11″) on a thinfin.
Moved up stream to the wall in front of the Ford. Caught a rock bass (8″) just below the hole, followed by a smallmouth (10″) right out of the hole. Failed to set the hook on a third one above the hole. All were on an asai shad as well.
Moved further back up to Bridge St. Dropped my lure in the water to draw it up for the cast, but had a bass (12″) on before I could draw. Caught a northern pike (26″) off the walkway wall. Again, both on an asai shad.
Finally, moved up to the ladder launch. No luck here. Finished out the day at riverside park. Couldn’t stir anythihg up at the boat launch, nor on either side of the lagoon.

Started this evening at Hopewell Mounds, but all the good spots were taken. Tryed fishing under the bridge, but the current was too strong and the good backwater sports were all taken by the catfisherman.

Went downtown after failing to find a spot at the mounds. Took up residence under Bridge St. Caught a little smallie (7″) above the coffer on a threadfin mat, then after moving under the bridge where dad caught a little rock bass, I caught thee smallies (9″,8″,10″) on a chartreuse mat. Dad caught a smallie with nice markings in the boils below the coffer, then I caught a little rockie (7″) back under the bridge on a bream seeker. Had to pack it up after that as the wind was growing quite cold.

Grand River
Ada, MI
Take: Smallmouth Bass (21)
Went back up to Ada today. Caught a smallmouth (7″) off the point on a white spinnerbait. Lot of midsize bass hanging out in there, even so bold as to hang right around my legs, but none of them interested in anything I had to offer. As a side note, th water is now a good 3 feet down from the spring high, you can walk right out to the dropoff at the backwater and only be slightly more than ankle deep.

Finished the evening in Alaska. Caught a rock bass (7″) on an eppinger and a smallmouth (9″) on a black fury. Had to leave before expected due to overcrowding and some assholes who thought it would be cool to swin through the rapids and make a racket in the only good fishing hole.

Grand River
Grand Rapids, MI
Take: Smallmouth Bass (17,18)
Fished the coffer dam downstream from fish ladder park under Bridge St. Caught one smallmouth (13″) on a chartreuse spinner bait, and then one more (12″) on a texas shad timber tiger. Very sunny, didnt last more than a few hours today as the sun was just draining me. Maybe too much sun in the last few days? Hard to think, after the spring we’ve had, that there could be too much time in the sun.

Thornapple River
Cascade, MI
Take: Crappie (4)
What a shit week it’s been at work. The only good thing about this week has been the fact that the fishing was decent all week. Fishing the point south of the backwater at the Cascade Dam yielded a crappie (11″) tonight. My experiment has thus far been a success in modifying how to fish a french spinner for both better depth control and better ability to cast with a baitcaster.
Worked: Chartreuse Black Fury(#3)
