Campau Lake
Alto, MI
Take: -

Fished at the Campau Lake public access. The water is very shallow with some vegetation to the north, and toward the south end of the access at the dock the water has some depth, but lacks clarity. The water is still somewhat cold for mid-may and the fish did not seem to be active.

Grand River
Grand Rapids, MI
Take: Smallmouth (50,51,52)

Fished downtown tonight. Couldn’t find any of the usual suspects under bridge or on the wall. While fishing the wall a hen mallard walked right up to my side, looked up at me and started quacking at me as if to have a conversation. Very interesting to have a duck walk right up next to me. We went across the ped bridge to the other side and fished the east side for the first time. Waste of time. Finished up under pearl, caught 3 smallmouth bass (11″, 10″, 10″). The first one gave me quite a fight wrapping itself around some branches in the water. Took a while, but wound up having a good night.

Flat River
Lowell, MI
Take: Largemouth (5), Rock Bass (36,37,38,39,40,41,42,43,44), Smallmouth (45)

Making my way down the barrell stream yielded a 5″ largemouth under the cross stream log. Under the east tressel there was a rock bass (7″). Caught two more rock bass off the end of the pier (7″,8″). Found a smallmouth (11″) in the hole downstream of the pier. Strangely, it was the first smallie I caught in the last fifteen fish. Caught another rock bass (6″) in the same spot. Finished upstream of the pier and caught a few rockies (8″,9″,6″,6″,6″). Pretty good night.

Grand River
Grandville, MI
Take: Smallmouth (30)

Fished the picnic area at hopewell mounds this morning. The water is about back to normal flows now, with the level dropping nearly four feet from when we there a week ago. The drainage channel is absolutely filled with minnows which led me to believe something larger would have to feed there at some point. After an hour of patient fishing a smallmouth rolled up into the channel abnd started snipe feeding on the minnows. He also took an interest in my baby bass matzuo and I was able to land him at 11″. Unfortunately, he seemed to be the only one in the area.

Grand River
Ada, MI
Take: -

After dinner, headed out to ada. The point is accessible again now that the water has receded, however, there is a massive tree that fell at the end of the point which while the water remains high is making the area inaccessible to fishing. Had to settle for fishing the backwater. Dad caught a rock bass, but I couldn’t stir anything up.
